EMPLOYED TO SERVE – THE WARMTH OF A DYING SUN (HOLY ROAR RECORDS)
With their first album, Greyer Than You Remember, Employed To Serve wowed audiences with a hardcore record that was as technical as it was aggressive. On The Warmth Of A Dying Sun the technicality has been phased out somewhat, in order to make way for grooves, hooks, and the occasional slow, blistering open-chord section that feels like watching yourself get burned up inside a star.
The aggression from the last record is still undeniably there – vocalist Justine Jones and guitarist Sammy Urwin‘s vocals are perfect, either when working together or playing off each other, and (shock-horror) there’s even some clean singing that just reminds you how caustically searing the screaming delivery is.
If Employed To Serve can continue to make albums as good as The Warmth Of A Dying Sun then there’s no way they won’t be considered one of the UK’s finest hardcore exports in years to come.
