ENDON – THROUGH THE MIRROR (DAYMARE RECORDINGS)
Quite possibly the release that will have seen the least amount of coverage in the UK of all of them on this list, when we first listened to Through The Mirror it was hard to even make it the whole way through, so intense and claustrophobic is the sound of this album. But after repeated listens, the jagged, nasty monstrosity began to make more and more sense, and now we regard it as a masterpiece, albeit one that’s made out of human bones and razors. There is nothing catchy, nothing bouncy, nothing fun from this Japanese noise-core band, just walls and walls of noise and harsh electronic experimentation, all with singer Taichi Nagura‘s ear-splitting pained screeching over the top of it.
Endon have been around for over a decade now, but it’s their total unwillingness to be anything other than chaotic, extreme noise-merchants that has them lurking in the underground, and with an album this genuinely horrible it’s probably the best place for them.
