‘68 – TWO PARTS VIPER (COOKING VINYL)
As frontman of Norma Jean, and then The Chariot, Josh Scoggin has been wowing audiences for many a year now. His latest project, ’68, holds little in common with either of his two previous musical outlets, but don’t be fooled into thinking that ’68 is the vanity project of a musician that “never quite made it”. Two Parts Viper is an outstanding record with no real other parallels out there to give a reference point to. It’s the kind of jagged, fucked-up classic-rock-meets-hardcore that Every Time I Die have been known to do, but made by two absolute madmen that seem to enjoy trying to make Led Zeppelin and Will Haven at the same time.
Two Parts Viper has its moment of being both catchy and painfully heavy, often within the same songs, and there’s so much going on that it’s hard to believe that this album was made by only a singer/guitarist and a drummer.
