1. Black Peaks – Statues
Statues is the stunning debut album from Brighton-based post-hardcore band Black Peaks, and shows without doubt that they are one of the UK’s most exciting and promising young bands right now. There are no weak tracks, with every song delivering a perfect blend of awesome riffs and delicate melodies while singer Will Gardner’s vocals effortlessly switch between soft falsettos, deafening roars and terrifying shrieks depending of the mood of the song. Guitarist Joe Gosney, drummer Liam Kearley and bassist Andrew Gosden are also exceptionally talented, drawing inspiration from bands like Mastodon, Tool and Oceansize to create complex yet incredibly listenable songs that will have you both headbanging and singing along at the top of your lungs. The closing track also features a guest appearance by ex-Reuben frontman Jamie Lenman, providing a powerful and memorable end to the album. Everything adds up to a masterful album which will no doubt be held up for years to come as one of the finest debuts in the UK rock scene.
2. Frightened Rabbit – Painting of a Panic Attack
