‘Exhausted’ – Foo Fighters (1995)Sticking with the first album, Grohl released ‘
Exhausted‘ as a promo for the album one week before the first official single ‘
This Is A Call‘ came out. The song was used as a concert-closing staple during Foo Fighters’ early tours and is apparently one of a handful of songs Grohl recorded with Nirvana bassist Krist Novoseic while they waited for Kurt Cobain to arrive at their last ever recording session.
The reverb drenched opening conveys a certain poignancy before the haunting vocals have even started, but then the track is blown wide open with one of the most kick-ass riffs the Foos have ever recorded. Then, just as the song seems to end in a hail of screaming feedback, it comes straight back to life like a space rocket aimed at your face. Pure balls to the wall, angst-fuelled rock music for the ages.
