‘Wattershed’ – Foo Fighters (1995)What better place to start than at the beginning? Following the tragic end of Nirvana, Dave Grohl used some of his own material he had been writing to form his new band Foo Fighters. Plot twist – for the first album, Dave Grohl was Foo Fighters and Foo Fighters was Dave Grohl. He took on the roles of vocalist, guitarist, bassist, drummer AND producer.

Despite the short-handedness, Grohl managed to release one of the most-celebrated rock albums of the year, entering at number 3 on the UK Album charts behind only Bon Jovi and Michael Jackson and securing Gold sales status. In amongst the singles ‘This Is A Call‘, ‘Big Me‘, ‘For All the Cows‘ and ‘I’ll Stick Around‘, there laid a slice of hardcore punk mayhem called ‘Wattershed‘. It was stated in Grohl’s 2006 biography ‘The Dave Grohl Story’ that the track described his “love of hardcore and old school punk rock” – and boy, does he channel it well.
