A Brief History Of My Chemical Romance!

It is the 15th anniversary of My Chemical Romance’s I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love. To celebrate, here’s a brief history of the band!

My Chemical Romance History

2007 – The Black Parade

The bands third album made history once again as The Black Parade earned My Chemical Romance fame and worldwide acclaim most fans couldn’t have anticipated. Released in January 2007, after the videos for ‘Welcome To The Black Parade’ and ‘Famous Last Words’ had already been filmed, this album propelled MCR into the public eye. This album was also home to the band’s first and only number one single ‘Welcome To The Black Parade’.

They also release singles of ‘I Don’t Love You’, ‘Famous Last Words’ and ‘Teenagers’ from The Black Parade, and after the album release went on a massive 133 date world tour.

The concept of this album was much more involved than either of the preceding albums. The idea of the album focussed around The Patient; a man who died and his journey through the afterlife. In the concept, Gerard Way played the role of the band leader of The Black Parade, and on stage, the band performed the album tracks as the so-called ‘marching band’ along with full costumes and make-up, and shows often saw Way arrive on stage on a gurney.

Fans from around the world starting buying and making their own Black Parade costumes, and mimicking the distinctive make-up that the band members wore.

The Black Parade was a massive moment in alternative music history. As MCR became more popular, more people heard them and more became fans, and this moment in their history defined them as the music of a generation.
