Headliner #3 – Metallica
And rounding out this theme of new albums from age-old bands, the godfathers of thrash and heavy metal titans Metallica announced their new album would land in November. Hardwired… to Self-Destruct will undoubtedly pave the way for a mammoth world tour that will likely include a number of festivals – could Reading and Leeds fall into their plans. The obstacle here is that they only headlined it last year, so it may not be the freshest addition. But at the same time – it’s Metallica, who remain one of the most bankable rock bands in the world today.
Last time they played, the day varied considerably in terms of tone and exact genre; the closest relation was perhaps Babymetal. Considering their astronomical rise since then (YouTube views, supporting Red hot Chilli Peppers, etc.) we believe they could be in for a return in a much more prestigious slot on that Main Stage, or could they come along as part of “The Big 4”, alongside Slayer, Megadeth and Anthrax? We doubt it, but damn it, we can dream…
