James Hetfield – Burns after pyrotechnic malfunction

At a joint show with Guns ‘N’ Roses in Toronto in 1992, singer and guitarist of Metallica, James Hetfield started playing Fade to Black amongst an inferno of fire and fireworks. It was all going pretty well, until Hetfield apparently forgot where he was supposed to be standing – and ended up above one of the fire jets.

Hetfield suffered extensive burns to his legs and face, and the band had to postpone their upcoming tour, eventually replacing the singer while he was recovering.

Although the band were a little shy of pyrotechnics after the accident, the metal band did eventually go back to playing shows with pyro!
