Sometimes the song was written for the movie, other times the scene written around the song, but regardless the best movie soundtracks tie song and film scene inextricably together in your head. Whether you’ve just seen the movie or haven’t watched it in years, hearing the song immediately brings the movie vividly to mind. ‘Let’s Go Crazy’ in Purple Rain
“Dearly Beloved, we are gathered here today to get through this thing called Life…” Its opening lines now established in the rock canon, ‘Let’s Go Crazy’ is one of Prince‘s defining songs. Peppered throughout with incredible guitar, nods to a more pop sensibility (the “oh no, let’s go!” refrain), and fantastic lyrics, ‘Let’s Go Crazy’ is a Prince tour de force. The performance clips, shot at Minneapolis’ legendary First Avenue and interspersed with shots from the film Purple Rain, sum up neatly how Prince will never be replaced.
