Top Five Rock Tracks On Movie Soundtracks

Our picks for most iconic rock songs on movie soundtracks– we break down some of the most memorable marriages of film and music!

Sometimes the song was written for the movie, other times the scene written around the song, but regardless the best movie soundtracks tie song and film scene inextricably together in your head. Whether you've just seen the movie or haven't watched it in years, hearing the song immediately brings the movie vividly to mind. Below, five truly iconic rock songs on movie soundtracks:

‘Ceremony’ in Marie Antoinette

Sofia Coppola‘s 2006 film was an extravagant, sensory delight– not lacking in substance, but with an attention to the settings and costuming that the film’s subjects themselves would have appreciated. Though the film’s aesthetic immediately attracted attention, so did something else: Coppola’s unusual music choices. While Marie Antoinette is set in the late 1700s, it features a score of New Wave and post-punk bands on its soundtrack. At one of the high points of the film, a party is set to New Order‘s ‘Ceremony’, and while the juxtaposition of the sound and the visuals should jar, somehow it feels exactly right.
