Obviously to start with we’re going to have a quick analysis of this years Download lineup. 2016 brings some giants of the genre to Donnington. Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, Rammstein, it looks to be one metal weekend so far. It’s not just the bands though, the boffins behind Download try to bring something new and fresh every year. This year we’ve got the addition of WWE NXT to look forward to. Wrestling at a rock festival? That’s quite the pairing. The full line-up for this year’s Download isn’t confirmed yet, we’ve still got a bunch of bands to be added before it’s complete but it’s undoubtedly going to be one to remember, even if it is for bittersweet reasons. Download 2016 will for many be one big celebration of life for Motörhead‘s Lemmy Kilmister. With the news of his passing coming back when his band were on the bill, Motörhead’s slot is now to be filled with a tribute to the man himself, not to mention a touching rebranding of the main stage. We’ll make sure to see you at the Lemmy stage on Friday, drink in hand.
Download often gets a bit of shit from idiotic people claiming that it’s too expensive every year and that the headliners are all rehashes. Look, we don’t care who you are. £215 to see Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath and Rammstein as well as countless giants in rock is and absolute bargain. Not to mention all the memories and experiences that you bring back with you that you cannot put a price on. Every Download is a little different, and this year is shaping up to be a real beast.
