Another Beck album, another mutation. Taking his cue from James Brown, Prince and Funkadelic. Beck created his own version of funk that suited a more skinny white boy posture and helped him remain grounded in an irony that allowed him to explore and push even the most tired of Funk clichés into cracking songs that would kill at any indie disco.
Debra is a loose cut track that sees Beck at possibly his loosest. The live versions ramp this up even further and display Beck’s unrated command of an audience as he goes into full Jagger/Prince mode.
