2) Trivium are taking it old-school
With the new album the quartet will be wearing their influences on their sleeve as they channel the likes of Iron Maiden, Rainbow and Pantera into their own unique sound. Their new single was even inspired by Heaven and Hell, featuring Ronnie James Dio, Tony Iommi and Geezer Butler of Black Sabbath.
Lead singer Matt Heafy recently explained the inspiration behind the track, saying,
“The genesis of the record’s title track dates back to a 2007 run supporting Heaven and Hell in Japan. When I watched them live, it was something that really spoke to me, especially the song ‘Heaven and Hell’, I’d never heard metal summarized so well like that. Afterwards, I came up with ‘Silence in the Snow.’ We loved the song, but it just didn’t fit with the music we were making at the time. The reason was, perhaps, we weren’t ready for it. It required massive musical growth, and we’re ready now.”
It’s easy to hear the Heaven and Hell influence as this track in particular is leaning more towards the power-metal genre with its grand operatic vocal style, lyrics about battle and bloodshed and absolutely no screaming.
