James Hetfield
Metallica front man James Hetfield is often considered the rock star with the best tattoos. The fine detailing in the work is incredible and the way each one seems to tell a story or represent a time in his life is both interesting and powerful. The many designs he has inked around his body include a picture of Jesus on his arm, four playing cards including an ace (number one), nine, six and three representing the year in which he was born coming out of flames on his arm and a number of religious crosses.
Hetfield claims to be really into symbolism, which is probably why he has so many tattoos. He explains: “Symbolism is pretty big for me, and the cross for me represents balance and connection with a higher power…I have St. Michael, which to me,that’s pretty huge. Facing your demons…I have some religious stories because whether they are real or not they are awesome inspiring stories.”
