Kirk Bloodsworth
Bloodsworth was the first person to be released from Death Row due to DNA evidence, after spending nine years behind bars for the rape and murder of a nine-year-old girl. He was released in 1993 after new testing proved that the semen found at the scene was not a match to his.
The real killer, Kimberly Ruffner, had recently been charged with another crime, and when the DNA profile was entered into the police computer system it linked the evidence to the crime that happened nine years ago. Bloodsworth was released soon after.
