Ladybaby
Formed less than a year ago, “kawaiicore” J-pop meets metal trio Ladybaby have been drawing gasps and giggles the world over, mainly for their cross-dressing pro wrestler frontman Ladybeard who is both charismatic and scary in equal measure. Along with his diminutive teenage accomplices Rei and Rie, the self-described singing, dancing and destroying kawaii-death-pop idol unit are quickly becoming a spectacle in their own right, rather than a below-par Babymetal knock-off.
They’ve made no secret about being a manufactured band (but how could you really), nor have they been shy to make it known that their entire career is sponsored and funded by Clearstone who make all of their cute costumes. Their single ‘Nippon Manju’ is about Japanese commercialism. Say what you want about Ladybaby, it looks like these marketing geniuses are having the last laugh whilst rocking out (and looking cute) along the way!
