Orange County party punks Zebrahead are back with their twelfth studio album. The nautical themed number is called Walk The Plank, and brings back that trademark Zebrahead energy we all know and love.
Walk The Plank is full of fun, something that Zebrahead are complete connoisseurs in churning out. The riffs are fast, the drums are mental and the all round feel of the thing is just plain awesome. The new album offers some fresh MFZB in huge quantities. Party punk number ‘Worse Than This’ is very much a call back to Zebrahead’s roots. It has one of the catchiest choruses we’ve heard in a long time, you simply cannot beat a good old feel good anthem.
Zebrahead offer some diversity with Walk The Plank too. The title track ‘Walk The Plank’ is the closest you can get to a rock ballad on a Zebrahead album, and there’s also some really heavy bits in there too! The intro to ‘Wasted Generation’ sounds like something you’d expect from Dragonforce, and it opens into pure circle pit mode. Zebrahead perfectly utilise their co-lead vocalists Matty Lewis and Ali Tabatabaee throughout the album, their vocals fuse perfectly on tracks like ‘Headrush’ which combines fast spat raps and some killer punk vocals to create one hell of a dance anthem. ‘So What’ is like Zebrahead’s answer to OPM‘s timeless ‘Heaven Is A Halfpipe’ and the closing track ‘Freakshow’ has guitar that would give Marty McFly a run for his Nike’s.
If you’ve been following Zebrahead for as long as we have you’ll get how special it is that they’re still producing top quality music for us to all to rock out to. Walk The Plank is an absolute gem. It’s such a treat for long time fans and newbies a like. Zebrahead may have been pop punking a little while longer than the new generation of bands these day, but we all know who’d come out on top in a party-off. No contest.
