Even though it hasn’t been that long since You Me At Six headed out on a headline tour of the UK, they always seem to sound fresh and bring something new every time they return. And with support from a band with as much potential as Black Foxxes and such a dedicated fan-base as that of Tonight Alive, it was pretty much guaranteed to be an amazing show.
Exeter trio Black Foxxes started the night with their unique blend of raw, powerful music that filled every corner of the Plymouth Pavilion. Having only released their amazing debut album I’m Not Well, this band really come alive on stage, and their gloomy, melancholic style takes on a whole new feel. Anyone in the pavilion who was left feeling unmoved after Black Foxxes was probably made of stone.
Tonight Alive’s set was all about good vibes. It was easy to sense the amount of dedicated fans that were there just to see their favourite female-fronted Aussie band, and easy to hear it in the amount of people singing along. Frontwoman Jenna McDougall was on fine form, blasting out the highest, longest notes with such ease and precision, and took the time between songs to speak about inner beauty and self-worth; all alongside Tonight Alive’s uplifting, melodic songs. Good vibes all around!
As always, the anticipation for the You Me At Six boys to come out on stage was pretty unbearable. When they hit the stage, the excitement in the pavilions hit fever pitch when they burst into the catchy, punchy title track from their latest album ‘Night People’. The room was bouncing right from the first track to the final one of the night.
Frontman Josh Franceschi promised a mix of old and new songs; and the band didn’t fail to deliver. They played tracks from all five albums, and although only playing ‘Save It For The Bedroom’ from their debut, Take Off Your Colours, Franceschi spilled the beans about a possible 10 year anniversary tour next year and the chance of new music by the end of the year, which more than made up for it.
Live, You Me At Six never fail to disappoint. Energetic and passionate on stage, it’s hard to take your eyes off them as they build a great rapport and make their shows feel personal for everyone there.
We’re so glad that You Me At Six have successfully regained their title as the undisputed kings of pop-punk, and even more psyched that they’re going to be making new music and coming back for an anniversary tour next year!
