THIS EP IS MAGNIFICENT!!!! We could honestly stop there and go no further but that wouldn’t do justice to the genius that Trepalium have created on new release Voodoo Moonshine.
What we have here is something truly original and possibly the most bonkers yet enjoyable album you are ever likely to here. We know. High praise indeed. ‘Moonshine Limbo’ get’s things going with the sounds of a packed bar. Glasses are smashing, the booze is flowing and then the music hits and nothing can prepare you. It starts swing, then the heavy groove laden riffs hit and your brain goes into meltdown. It has brass, it have jazz, it has metal, i’m sure it may even have the kitchen sink. It’s one part Cherry Poppin’ Daddies, mix in some Meshuggah, a dash of Pantera and mix with a healthy dose of Mr Bungle and you still aren’t close to what we have here.
The French group carry on this messed up rollercoaster throughout this EP and it cannot be faulted. It just works so well together and it really shouldn’t. When it is heavy it is seriously heavy ‘Possessed By The Nightlife’ shows that the band aren’t afraid to get nasty but somehow they never lose that groove and by god they never stop you tapping your feet to that feel good swing beat.
What we have here is not just the most original release so far this year. Trepalium may have the most original release of the last five years. It’s full of ideas, it’s impossible to pigeonhole, hell, it’s impossible to critique. All we can say is it’s a masterclass in what can be done with music if you just let your ideas flow free.
All we can say is go out. Listen to this and thank us later. Imagine the scene in movie The Mask when they are in the club and they sing ‘Cuban Pete’ . Now imagine Napalm Death are also in that band. We are still not even close to what is happening here and who can’t love a band that has a track called ‘Blowjob On The Rocks’
Simply mindblowing stuff.
