Germanys Treedeon are here with their debut album Lowest Level Reincarnation. Eight tracks, 51 minutes and a whole lot of sludge infested doom nastiness.
As the slow, almost mechanical drum beats open ‘Love Turns Liquid’ you have the uneasy feeling of what is ready to slope out of the darkness before any other instrument strikes a chord. This is gutteral, dark, sloping music of the very darkest. With track titles such as ‘Satans Need’ and ‘Terracide’ you know that pop-punk this is not.
Throughout the eight tracks that make up this album there is a deep heaviness. There is a groove that feels like it is drenched in thick tar. If the guitars were tuned any lower they would be, aptly, right there down in the pits of Hell. The Berlin trio produce a noise that is vast for their limited number of members. It is a constant wall of noise and distortion only broken from time to time by a primal Jekyll and Hyde, male and female, joint vocal that chills you to your very core.
‘Venus With Teeth’ is an aural assault that makes you think of an exorcism going very, very wrong. The priest isn’t going to win this battle of good and evil as this demon is just too strong and, to be honest, thats a good thing if it creates such cataclysmic soundscapes.
This is definitly not an album for everyone. It’s creates a violent cathartic release, it’s nasty, it’s brooding, it’s full of doom but if that is your cup of tea then this is a very impressive debut and belongs in your music library. Just don’t listen to it alone in the dark. This triangle of terror that make up Treedeon look like they have strong future ahead of them and that is a very scary prospect indeed!
