Going into a record completely blind is something that can go one of two ways. The ideal scenario is that you’re overcome by waves of euphoria as you become subject to an abundance of riffs, screams and blast beats. However there is always the possibility that during your first play through you could be left crying over what could have been. Funny ol’ world rock n’ roll isn’t it?
This new record from Through Fire then is actually more of a rebirth than a debut. What with the band’s former alias Emphatic being put to rest and the group returning to their original heavier roots, and to be honest It all sounds very promising.
We’re getting some strong nu metal vibes from ‘Breathe’, this record would definitely feel right at home in the early noughties. However, we’re not talking smack. It’s actually quite refreshing to listen to something a little bit old school. It’s always a risk when we’re handed a new record to review that you’ll end up having to endure something by Atilla 2.0, and no one deserves that kind of torture.
Thankfully though, there’s so talks of swag or c*nts here, just loud guitars and some impressive vocal work from Grant Joshua Kendrick. ‘Breakout’ has a huge meaty riff throughout the chorus, which is more than enough to get some heads moving. The overall sound of the record is difficult to label, although we’ll try our best. *Bracing for a horde of hate* Imagine a audio spliced lovechild between Papa Roach and Black Veil Brides and this is what you get. There’s even a bit of Breaking Benjamin thrown into ‘Where You Lie’. Like we said before, there’s some definite noughties in there.
Stand out tracks for us would have to be ‘Take It All Away’ and ‘Dead Inside’ but overall the release is pretty solid and a worthwhile listen all around. We’d like to wish Through Fire all the best with the new band and look forward to hearing more from you in the coming months, make 2016 your year dudes.
