Theory Of A Deadman have the unfortunately hard task of being the first band on at an arena show. Playing to a distracted crowd who are still tricking in to the venue and getting drinks from the bar is tricky, and most people seem to spend Theory’s set just waiting for the next act.
That being said, you can’t fault the bands efforts. Before the second song, ‘Lowlife‘, Tyler Connolly asks the crowd to ‘show me those rock n roll horns‘ which a majority of the half capacity crowd do.
The songs are played faultlessly, even if the bass is a little too loud through the speakers. It really is Tyler’s conversation that makes the set tonight. He responds brilliantly to the stereotypical call of ‘I love you,’ from a crowd member. ‘Who said that?‘ He laughs, before adding, ‘Let’s do it! Let’s get married, let’s have kids and get divorced.‘

This is the first moment of the evening it feels like the crowd truly appreciates the band in front of them as they take the reins on the first verse. Tyler can’t resist making an addition to the lyrics ‘I hate all of the people who can’t drive their cars‘ by muttering ‘women‘ into his mic. Half of the crowd laugh at his joke, half are slightly appalled, all are too distracted to sing the next few lines.
Overall, Theory Of A Deadman put on a great show tonight, playing most of their heavier, more energetic singles in their best efforts to get the crowd moving. With a bit more atmosphere from the crowd this could have been a great set.
