Review: Your Army – Ignite (Album)

Female fronted bands are spilling out from everywhere, next on the list are Brighton based Your Army. Check out what HTF thought of their debut full length album.

Band: Your Army
Release: Ignite (Album)
Release Date: Out Now

Female fronted bands seem to be spilling from everywhere at the moment and Your Army are the next to drop into the mixture. The band hail from Brighton and ‘Ignite’ marks the debut album release from them. But there is something about front woman Lucy Caffrey which stands this band out from the rest of the Paramore imitations. Sadly every band is seemingly always going to fall to that comparison. Yes both bands are fronted by attractive females but there are some differences.

It’s much easier for female rock singers to fall short but Lucy’s vocals are strong throughout the whole album, she has a fantastic set of lungs on her! Opening track ‘Without Regret’ begins with just vocals and a steady drum beat which sounds strangely like Billy Talent’s ‘Red Flag‘ if you listen closely. The track kicks in at every chorus with melodic guitar beats and a deep bass line and culminating in your typical gang vocals. It sounds oddly familiar, but at the same time like nothing we’ve heard before. It’s a strange one.

We hate to be ones to go back on comparisons, but the beginning of ‘One Last Time’ sounds so much like Paramore’s ‘Misery Business’ we wonder whether they are influences on the band. The guitar sounds very similar, but despite this it’s an excellent rock track. ‘Dance’ does exactly what it says on the tin and will make you want to get up and jump around your living room whilst ‘Throw Up Your Flag’ is full of melodic rhythm with a punk edge. It’s within this track that we get to sample some of Lucy’s softer singing alongside the powerful rock edge which is a complete pleasure.

Your Army play the sort of easily accessible inoffensive rock music full of power and energy. They’ve earnt a reputation for being a fiery energy live band, and if this album is anything to go by we’d love to catch a show! This album is a great start for the band.
