It doesn’t seem like 2 minutes since The Treatment appeared on the scene and made an immediate impression. The five Cambridge teenagers stood out from the pack. Whilst other bands of the same age looked like they were straight from the same cookie cutter of side partings and tight black clothing, The Treatment looked like they had been transported from a bygone age of hair metal and rock n’ roll party times. Move on a few years and the band return with their latest album ‘Running With The Dogs’ to show the Motley Crue’s and Guns n’ roses of the world that they might young but they too are the real deal!
Opening with ‘I Bleed Rock N’ Roll (that title alone should tell you what this band are about) you grasp straight away what you are going to get across this record. Head nodding, foot stomping, beer drinking, good time rock n’ roll. Stadium rock at it’s most pure.
Although it has never gone away, the last few years has seen a this type of rock gain new life. Bands like Airbourne and The Answer have been proudly flying the flag to capacity crowds around the world and here The Treatment prove that they deserve to stand shoulder to shoulder with their peers (and their grand-peers). Sorry to keep coming back to the age thing but it’s hard to explain how young these guys are. With ‘Running With The Dogs’ they show maturity and musicianship well beyond their years. This really comes to the fore when the band change gear on ‘Cloud Across The Sun’. While the heart of this record, as proved on tracks like ‘She’s Too Much’ and ‘Don’t Look Down’ is on uptempo stomping grooves, with ‘Cloud Across The Sun’ they show that they are no one trick pony. They show there are more layers to their sound. A slower track with pure heartfelt groove that gives singer Matt Jones a chance to show what a powerful range he has vocally.
What The Treatment show here on their sophmore album is that they are definitely not a flash in the pan that got lucky. ‘Running With The Dogs’ prove that these guys are the real deal and they are hear to stay. Expect to hear a lot more in 2014 and beyond about The Treatment because this record is going to do nothing less than push this band up another few levels and if they keep putting out music of this calibre it’s hard to see what can stop them! Also did I mention how young they are???? By God that means they are probably nowhere near close to hitting their prime.
