Band: The Word Alive
Release: Entirety (Single)
Release Date: Out Now
The Word Alive always strive to push the boundaries within their genre and their new single ‘Entirety’ is no exception to this motto of theirs. The track, taken from their forthcoming album ‘Life Cycles’ is one deep (ish) song emotion-wise, as frontman ‘Telle’ has revealed:
“This song was truly the first love song I’ve ever written. I didn’t want it to be cheesy however or sappy…. I think this song is one of our collective favorites on the record. It’s got a metal groove to it that we’ve never tried before and it came out great.”
And cheesy and sappy it is, lyrically anyway. “If I lost you, I’d lose everything” and “I feel you within me” are just a sample of the thoughts expressed. Though, these are made 100 times cheesier in the All Time Low-style lyric video that accompanies the song. The lyrics in a visual form make it look like some sort of hi-tech love letter. Though instrumentally there’s a lot less of the cringe. The metal feel created in the meaty backing contrasts with the words, making it a bit more bearable. The aggressive vocal tone also creates a sense of unrest about this spoken relationship, making it a little more insightful.
With an album called ‘Life Cycles’ maybe there’s more of this ‘love story’ to be told? We’ll have to wait until July 2nd to find out…
7/10
