Band: Searching Alaska
Release: Summits (EP)
Release Date: Out Now
It is noticeable that whenever a fresh faced female fronted rock band is mentioned, the immediate comparison to Paramore comes to mind. Although at times Essex/Surrey five-piece, Searching Alaska, remind us of the trio from Tennessee, with a more aggressive sound being the driving force behind the new tracks from their latest EP Summits, we feel as if they could be the love child of Paramore and Four Year Strong.
Animatic anthem ‘Step Back’ opens up the EP providing a burst of fist pumping energy. Brash melodies mixed with gang vocals cause the track to be a frantic sing along memoir. Second track ‘Puzzles’ is able to highlight the band’s ability to trigger emotion. Throughout the song it is evident the beautifully crafted lyrics reach out to those listening to it. With guitarists Jake Ringsell and Toby Campen creating a vigorous blend of riffs, the song is sure to be a favourite amongst the band’s growing fan base.
Half way through the EP we hear ‘Walk on Worlds’, the band’s single which features Dan Lawrence of Kenai. The unrefined anthem is a somewhat killer. Vocalist Christina Rotondo works with Lawrence in order to bring the track haunting vocals which are sure to stay with you. Powerful beats provided by drummer, Jamie Abela, give the track a back bone causing it to be a favourite here at Hit The Floor.
In the first few seconds of ‘Anchors’ we hear an array of sounds offering diversity to the EP. Opening up with an acoustic solo Rontondo’s exquisite voice hits every note perfectly. Thinking we’re in for an instrumental treat, the track later surprises us by progressing into a turbulent combination of intense riffs and forceful harmonies creating tasteful chaos.
Closing Summits is agile ballad ‘A Glass Case Of Emotion’. Leaving listeners wanting more with catchy a chorus, Searching Alaska have caused fans to want to have the EP on repeat and listen all over again.
