Rife with sludgy, grungy filth come God Damn, armed to the rotting teeth with debut record ‘Heavy Money‘.
‘Red Checker‘ kicks off proceedings in a subtly frantic fashion; fuzzy, noisy and groove-based, the rhythm section pays brilliant homage to the traditionally styled vocals, almost talked and droned so as to cause a weird, oddball kind of mystery around the bands sound. At the same time as having an almost deceptive aura surrounding the overall feel of God Damn, the band sound as they should have been around a lot longer than they have been, they sound established and for a debut, this is set to put many a new band to shame.
Title-track and first single ‘Heavy Money‘ incorporates more of the scratchy, sketchy and almost wavering vocal style that only compliments the heavy, huge sounds that carry it. The grunge elements bawl through, bleakly and heavier than your nans tits with no holds-barred whilst ‘I Don’t Really Mind‘ is enough to force you into a uncertain, noir dream/nightmare, the perfect contrast with no exaggeration.
‘New Invention Victory Club‘ is an instrumental track, a brave move for a track on a debut record but it is completely safe as houses to say that this grabs you by the balls before kicking them back into your groin before hard, pummelling sounds of ‘Like Meat To Morrissey‘ kick in, every track ties in nicely without sounding similar in any way whatsoever. No bollocks.
‘Dangle Like Skeletons‘ closes ‘Heavy Money‘ in an initially tentative, almost relaxed fashion before the big rock riff comes out swinging before ducking and diving between huge sounds and dropped down subtlty. Brilliance and nothing short of it. This record is just a teaser in our opinion, a fucking insanely huge teaser of what this band will become when the time comes to release a full-length record. Nothing shy of top notch and if you don’t download this record for free (yes, free!), then you are a fucking mug, my friend!
