Dead Fader have returned to 2014 with a dual full length release featuring John Cohen’s distinct sounds. With Blood Forest, contagious dance tracks feel the force of heavy distortion and stretched noises into unusual textures and melodies. Whereas Scorched strips back everything you just heard into the raw, coarse and rough sounds that degenerate into haunting tracks.

Blood Forest kicks off with ‘Emclod’ a spiral of synth and touch of distortion before Cohen moves onto ‘In Cover’ which juxtaposes speeds and warps sound until you are trapped in Blood Forest and overrun with blaring horns and drowning carousels. Tracks such as ‘Drown’ play in what we find in silence and echoes that construct a landscape around each track that continues into ‘Tenblum’ that twists through into every perverted level into a mind fuck over beautiful tones. Title track ‘Blood Forest’ inverts all this disfigurement into elements of causic dance, provoking further with every track.

Blood Forest is soon exposed against Dead Faders’ second full length of the dual release, Scorched. Opener ‘Creeeeep’ heaves an addictive beat of lunging exaggerations before ‘1000 Test’ takes us further into this crude, crase and an extreme album. Each track pulls in another layer of sound that you were unaware of, endless loops of chaotic structures forming the crux of Scorched that embeds itself in your brain. Tracks like ‘Ja’ teeter on swelling sounds that overlay on each other into obsessive fragments alike ‘No Exceptions‘ and title track ‘Scorched‘.

Dead Fader make you feel like you’ve had your head messed with, as if Cohen himself climbed in on a sound wave and pulled at what he could. Both Blood Forest and Scorched have this effect but achieve it in completely different ways. Blood Forest has a balance of melodies and remnants of madness whereas Scorched is the Mr Hyde to Blood Forest‘s Dr Jekyll. If you want to lose yourself in an album, this is the dual release for you.
