Rebecca Ferguson brought her ‘Freedom’ tour to Bournemouth last week, with it supporting her second album of the same name, which was released in December.
The 2010 X Factor runner-up opened the night with the soulful ballad ‘Fake Smile’ before going into her lead single, the catchy ‘I Hope’. Rebecca impressed throughout the evening, showing off her unique husky sounding vocals as she switched from the powerful ballads ‘We’ll Be Fine’ and ‘All I’ve Got’, to the more livelier tracks such as ‘Beautiful Design‘ and ‘My Best’, the latter which got everyone on their feet, as well as allowing her to let loose and show off a few dance moves.
The singer also performed a range of tracks from her 2011 debut album ‘Heaven’, including the truthful ‘Shoulder to Shoulder’, the feel-good ‘Run Free’ and the beautiful ‘Teach Me How To Be Loved’. However one of our favourite moments of the night was her cover of Katy Perry’s girl power anthem ‘Roar’, and later on in the evening she gave a great rendition of Prince’s ‘Raspberry Beret’.
As well as captivating the audience with her vocals, Rebecca should also be praised for her songwriting skills, as there was definitely a prominent theme of ‘Freedom’ expressed during the evening. The majority of her songs reinforce inspiring messages, by offering a positive spin on heartache, with this probably indicating why her albums are so appealing and successful. Also interestingly, although the Liverpudlian singer is a confident performer, she seemed to have a shyness about her when speaking to the audience, which somehow makes her even more likeable.
After an hour and a half set, Rebecca brought the night to an end with ‘Nothing’s Real But Love’, reinforcing once again her powerful and soulful voice.
Overall, an enjoyable evening which proved that Rebecca Ferguson is extremely talented and has progressed a great deal from her X Factor days.
