Pop-punk fans, rejoice! New York pop-punkers Patent Pending have released a brand new covers album Other Peoples Greatest Hits – and it’s a gooden! Filled to the brim with hit songs from yesteryear right up to today, everyone is guaranteed to find something to love on this album.

Patent Pending have never been a band to pigeon-hole themselves into a genre. Sure, they are great at making pop-punk tunes, and this is what they’re best known for. But that doesn’t stop them experimenting in other styles, and this album is a tribute to that. ‘Spice Up Your Life’ almost sounds like a punk song when Patent Pending get their mitts on it; who would have thought that if you remove the Spice Girls’ synth and replace it with guitars, it could be so heavy!

Other People’s Greatest Hits is full of classic songs with a Patent Pending twist. Modern classics like Ed Sheeran’s ‘Shape Of You’ and Little Mix’s ‘Shout Out To My Ex’ sound like completely original rock songs, and you won’t feel ashamed to love them on this album! Roll songs like this with retro numbers like Rick Astley’s ‘Never Gonna Give You Up’ and ‘Can’t Take My Eyes Off You’ by Frankie Valli And The 4 Seasons, and you’ve got a rock album that won’t alienate lovers of any genre or age of music.

Patent Pending put this album together really well. They don’t strip back this songs and mess around with them to the point that they are completely unrecognisable from the original; but they do enough to make them their own. Signature pop-punk guitar, paired with a really great riff that we didn’t even realise was there, and frontman Joe Ragosta’s awesome vocals makes their cover of Ricky Martin’s ‘Living La Vida Loca’ a highlight of the album.

Other People’s Greatest Hits is a testament to everything that Patent Pending are about; they make fun music, and they make music they enjoy for fans who love it. This album is for dancing, singing along with and having a great time, and when you listen to it, that’s exactly what you’ll want to do. Cover albums are a dime a dozen, but this one is not to be missed.
