Ladies and gentlemen we are happy to give you Night Heaver and by christ it is a beauty of an EP.
Opening with ‘Lonnie Johnsons Greatest Hit’ you are hit straight away with deep, heavy aggression but a;sp with groove and melody. It has many dimensions, a sense of urgency that is quite refreshing to hear. At the halfway point of the opening track it drops out to the sound of short breadths and you feel a nervous energy welling up inside, you get that voice in your head saying “this is good….This is really good”.
It would be easy to throw comparisons at this band. Sure they have a feel in some of the riffs and sounds they fling out of a British Every time I Die. Maybe even that some of the more discordant sounds echo The Dillinger Escape Plan. That would be lazy reviewing though, it would be a disservice to the band and take away from what we actually have on our hands here and that is basically an amazing sounding EP. There really is no drop in quality at all. ‘The Great Unwashed’ slays you as it adds layers and quickly takes them away before an ending that bludgeons you.
We could try and dissect every song here but there is no point. These guys from Sunderland have been making waves as of late on the live scene and if they are anything like this EP live we understand why. If this sucker punch of a record doesn’t get these guys noticed in 2015 then we live in a truly sick, messed up world. Well done gents!
