There is a rule when seeing the punk rock legends that are NOFX, if you are easily offended then stay away. You see when you see them live it is more than just a gig where you will hear some of the greatest punk anthems of all time. You also get a comedy show in the very worst taste and by God that is almost as amazing as the timeless tracks you are about to be hit by.
Tonight is the first of two sold out nights at the Leeds Academy on their co-headline UK run with Alkaline Trio and my word are the crowd in for a treat tonight as the band are playing seminal album Punk In Drublic in it’s entirety. That means we are hit by such classics as ‘Linoleum’, ‘Leave It Alone’, ‘Don’t Call Me White’, etc. Basically the tracks that formed many a punk rock fans youth and it goes down a storm. The crowd laps up every bit of what happens on stage.
Early I mentioned the comedy aspect of the band and they are on fine, highly offensive form tonight. It is hard to tell what we get most of. Is the songs? Or is it Fat Mike and El Hefe berating the crowd, the government, Mexicans, Jewish people, basically there is nothing and no-one off limits and they do not care who they offend. It is all tongue in cheek and it may get very close to being offensive but lets face facts. They are hilarious, the songs are amazing and this is exactly what you want from a NOFX gig. All in all it is outstanding and once again they prove why they are punk rock royalty and punk rock jesters.
