Band: Steel Panther
Support: The Treatment
Venue: Brixton Academy, London
Date: 31/03/12
Every time The Treatment play they progress more and more, and at Brixton 02 Academy they played better than ever. When they ran out onto the stage with their song ‘Shake The Mountain’ kicking off what was going to be the start of one very eventful night, the crowd went wild and more and more people were pushing their way to the front to get a better look at what is going to be the biggest new-hard rock band to come out of the UK. By the end, the entire building had their hands in the air as they sang along to those famous lyrics “Nothing to lose but our minds” before The Treatment left the stage with a standing ovation and cries for encores. This band has impressed HTF before, and they just did it again. (Words: Louisa Smith)
Then it was time for the sheer genius that is Steel Panther to grace Brixton’s stage; the audience lost their minds instantly. A sea of big hair, shiney spandex and rock n roll make up surrounded the academy. It was completely brimming with all kinds of fans, our favourite type of audience. The young and the old flocked in their thousands to see these American rock n roll nutters and tonight’s show was an adrenaline rush from beginning to end.
As all four members stormed on stage after the intro of their newest album ‘Balls Out’ was blasted out to the sold out crowd, they exploded into album great ‘Supersonic Sex Machine’. Their new album ‘Balls Out’ has caused so much controversy which was expected, have you listened to it? Its crude and male arrogant hysteria cannot be taken seriously. That is the part and parcel of what the band are, hilarious!
There were so many highlights to their set tonight. The continuous thrusting from guitarist Satchel as he nailed his phenomenal guitar riffs throughout each track; the damn right jaw dropping vocal from leading man sensation Michael Starr was also a delight to watch. The only other front man to have a crotch clenching voice like that is The Darkness front man Justin Hawkins, those two together would be like a lightning storm of power!
As bass guitarist Lexxi continued to check his make-up in his pink diamanté mirror, it became apparent at how individual this band are. Nobody could get away with their on stage antics, they grabbed girls out of the audience who hugged and grinded each member like a scene from a porno, it was brilliant.
As they began to play the track that made them famous, ‘Death To All But Metal’ the academy erupted and the audience sang every word back to the band.
It was then time for an encore that thankfully included new album favourite ’17 Girls In A Row’, arguably the best song on their new album. The lyrics are so sexually disgusting that naturally the audience loved it.
If you have not yet had the ultimate pleasure of witnessing these nutters live then do it, you will not be disappointed! Tonight was a complete crack and the bands dominating talent was continuous throughout. (Words: Steph Knight)
