In support of the release of their debut album ‘No Strings Attached‘ – out this month – Room 94 brought their UK tour to Bournemouth this week. Proving their worth as one of Britain’s hottest up-and-coming bands, the pop/rock four-piece delivered a highly energetic set.
Met with deafening screams from the crowd as they took to the stage, Room 94 went straight into old track, ‘Tonight‘, which got everyone jumping from the outset. This led into personal favourite ‘Superstar‘, a great party dance number, before ‘One Night‘ kicked in. The ‘adult’ lyrics seemed a little lost on their younger fans but it was nonetheless, an enjoyable live track.
Next track ‘You Got It Wrong‘ was released a couple of years ago, and initially received little crowd participation, but things soon picked up and the boys had everyone clapping to the rock song by the end. They were soon into the catchy ‘Kiss Me Like You Mean It‘, another popular party track.
The halfway point in their set was marked with a rocky rendition of One Direction‘s big hit ‘Best Song Ever‘, as the band kept with their tour tradition of covering a track by the boyband. It was an excellent choice given their teenage fanbase, who went absolutely wild throughout the song. They then chose to slow things down, performing the slow ‘Ignorance Is Bliss‘, and showing a more raw, emotional side to their songwriting.
However, it was soon back to high energy, with ‘When I Was A Teenager‘ receiving great feedback from the crowd. Introduced by the band as a ‘pick-me-up’ track for their fans in their low moments, ‘Come Calm Me Down‘ seemed to have particular meaning on the night. This was followed by ‘The Morning After‘, yet another audience favourite, confirmed by their singing along throughout.
A short break ensued before the boys took to the stage for the two-track encore. ‘We Came Here To Dance Tonight‘ epitomised the whole gig and final track ‘Chasing The Summer‘ left the crowd wanting not only the sun, but a longer set from the band.
Balancing performance with crowd interaction is often tough for artists, but for this four, it is always done effortlessly. They took time to read audience banners and speak to their fans – both in the gig and afterwards – while also bringing a party atmosphere to their set. It is clear to see Room 94 are continually honing their craft and with this performance, the band are destined to hit the big time soon.
