After just being signed with Black Numbers, Lilac Daze have attempted to bring a huge passion of alternative rock to their listeners, with their new EP Sedated. If you like the Pixies, the punk nostalgic old rock sound of Lilac Daze, will suit you well.
Having formed just a few years ago, purely for a united love for music amongst friends, the band have been known to spend their time in a moldy practice space writing music and drinking good beer. This combination of love for playing, in the dank crevices of our mind, Sedated brings a cool, yet powerful melodic noise.
Tracks such as ‘Fountain and Medicine’, brings an optimistic beat, with soaring riffs and the monotone vocals serve well to the ruckus of indie, punk rock. On the flip-side they too have the heavier side, with tracks such as ‘Life Scout’ and ‘Porcelain God’, the drumming of which shines through the EP. Heavy, but heartfelt, with angst vocals to match, true grit to let your ears indulge into on an uneasy day.
At times there is something reminiscent of an early RHCP in the hook. Bonus. Patti Kotrady also delivers on the vocals in ‘Kathleen’, a great breakdown, with a magical finish. Their latest single ‘Knives’ is also featured; the sarcastic sour pinch of their lyrics is clearly the way for Lilac Daze, swinging hand-in-hand with their angst inspired sound.
