Jagermeister Tour 2014 – Brixton Academy, London – 21/12/2014 | Live Review

The Jagermeister tour saw Capdown, The Skints and Me First and Gimmee Gimmee’s rock on stage in London a few days before Christmas. Here’s what we thought!

Capdown reformed for the Jagermeister tour and due to their performance and the crowd reaction, you would have thought they’d never been away. With an explosive entrance from the old schoolers, the energy from the boys didn’t die throughout their whole set. They played the fan favourite ‘Cousin Cleotis’ three songs in at a slower tempo then on CD, possibly for the original fans who’s joints have been worn down after 17 years of Skankin’ ‘n’ Pittin’. All the brass songs really get the crowd into a frenzy and by the time ‘Ska Wars’ hits the place is going wild. For a band that’s ‘not really a band’ they did an incredible impression of one.

As soon as The Skints hit the stage it becomes quite apparent that the East London guys had brought in most of fans for their ‘local’ show which is so tight and so entertaining. With each member bringing something different to make the crowd instantly gel with a laid start to their set after the furious Capdown performance. What stands out every time, is Bassist Jonathan with his boneless body and fluid grooving, more Gel than man. With their flawless cover of Katy B’s ‘On a mission’ the sea of bobbing heads are finally in sync for the last chilled out 25 minutes.

Fresh off the boat and straight out of a Duran Duran music video, Me First and The Gimmee Gimmees storm the stage in white suits and hawaiian shirts- although Fat Mike is nowhere to be seen. Hit after hit came firing out with gig goers leaving bags with strangers so there’s a small chance of their stuff surviving the pit. ‘Leaving on a Jet plane’, ‘Jolene’  and ‘Rocket man’ are all present including solo Ukulele songs from lead singer Spike which acts as a well needed break for the great unwashed. The brand new cover song ‘Karma Chameleon’ goes down a storm and finishing on some best loved Christmas songs in Christmas hats brings the whole night to an awesomely festive close.
