Invoker are a melodic hardcore five piece hailing from Switzerland, and are set to release their brand new debut album Four Wall Nightmare on the 3rd of March. The band already have two EPs under their belts, and this new offering is jam packed with potential. They’ve already supported the likes of Landscapes and Counterparts, and have been racking up quite a reputation for their live performances.
There are melodic elements weaved throughout the whole record. Songs like ‘Lost’ and ‘Awake’ are introduced with beautiful, stripped back guitars before building into the compelling main bodies with punchy drums and growling vocals. ‘Alone’ throws in a grinding breakdown to remind everyone that they are definitely deserving of the hardcore tag. The band have found a great way to blend sludgy verses with foot tapping, kick drum heavy choruses, seamlessly skipping between uptempo and milder bridges. ‘Idyll’ is an interesting interlude made up of two minutes of soft, gentle guitars contrasting against an emotional, hard hitting voice over telling the story of “acute anxiety”, a break from the rough vocals and heavy drums which fill most other tracks.
Overall, the album flows well between light and dark tracks, with just the right balance of each. There is room for Invoker to tighten, grow and develop themselves and really fulfil that potential, but Four Wall Nightmare is certainly a very strong debut and a great showcase of what the band are capable of. It definitely won’t be long before this band are playing with the giants of the genre!
