Life Lessons is the brand new EP from Essex metal unit, Idols Of Apathy. So without further ado lets tear open this five track djent fest and see what’s what shall we?
Well, from the off it’s clear that this new release from Idols Of Apathy isn’t for the faint of heart. ‘Bipolar’ is our first stop and we’re immediately greeted with monstrous vocals and the lowest guitar tuning we’ve heard in ages, there’s nothing like some British metal to get you in the Christmas/ New Year spirit don’t you agree? All this metal magic continues through to ‘Addiction’ which comes bundled with a riff more groovy than a Motown diner. Everything is looking pretty good, with us only having one negative to address thus far. The tracks seem to just go on a little to long for our liking. We’d prefer it if the tracks still held on to their immense power but just condensed it slightly, if you’ve checked out The 25th Hour from Terror you’ll know what we mean, just a thought.
Three tracks in and ‘Once A Cheat Always’ is crammed full of mosh fuel. Breakdowns, mosh calls and a shit load of whammy. This one is destined to be a definite crowd pleaser at live shows, the more we listen the more we love it. ‘Backstabber’ re-introduces that djent groove with some rapidly spat lyrics, adding a sense of diversity to the release which is awesome. Idols Of Apathy are making the most out of their genre, exploring various stylings, resulting in a very entertaining and complex EP. ‘Lessons Learnt’ is our last port of call and is definitely a monster of a closing tracks. With “BLERGHS” to rival that of Architect’s Sam Carter and and brutal instrumental work coming together in an amalgamation of heavy metal greatness. Life Lessons was a real surprise and we really had a lot of fun with it, here’s hoping we see and hear a lot more from Idols Of Apathy in the new year!
