Metalcore crew Forbidden Seasons are about to release their debut album Promise on the 16th March.
The debut album is a follow-up to the band’s debut EP Paramnesia. According to the frontman Mark, the album title refers “to all the promises made by people that are never fulfilled because of their selfishness”.
The record kicks off with the electro-infused ‘Atlantis’. Brutal vocals, electric flourishes and pulsating drums are prominent in the dark track. ‘Thank You For The Venom’ begins slow and melodious, but quickly builds to the same intensity as the former track. ‘Thank You For The Venom’ has a faster pace than the former. Forbidden Seasons are definitely not playing around with twinkly melodies here. The band is heavy—really heavy.
Elsewhere the moody ‘Wormhole’ could stand with any post-hardcore song of 2010-2013. The track features brutal riffs, heavy, unclean growls, and horror-movie-esque, gloomy undertones. The rest of the album is in the same vein—violent through and through.
Title track ‘Promise’ begins with a deep, emotional spoken word monologue. The track is softer and seems more thoughtful than the rest of the album. It features expressive vocals, snippets of the same spoken word monologue, and a muted, melancholy melody.
Like most metalcore albums, Promise is filled with punchy, riff-heavy melodies, and passionate, vicious vocals. So if you’re into breakdowns, mosh-pits and screaming aggressively along to songs, check out Forbidden Seasons and their debut album Promise.
