Fizzy Blood are truly fantastic; not only do they channel the punk rock of yesteryear but they prove themselves to be pioneers of Britain’s modern rock scene. They’ve had an eventful year playing festivals all over, with more still to come as they gear up to play the infamous Lock-Up Stage at Reading & Leeds. The first week of September will then see the band release their stunning new EP Summer Of Luv, which features five dazzling new tracks for fans to sink their teeth into.
Opening track ‘Pawn‘ is reminiscent of bands like the Sex Pistols at first, but it isn’t long before Fizzy Blood are showing that they’re quite capable of playing in the big leagues of a genre dominated by the likes of You Me At Six and Young Guns. It’s a fresh take on anthemic rock that’s built for stadium stages, and while Fizzy Blood aren’t quite there yet with packing out a room that size, they definitely have the potential that so many others lack.
The EP continues on with ‘ADHD‘ and ‘Haunted‘, both powerful tracks that showcase the full extent of Fizzy Blood’s talent. Each song sees not only the band’s excellent musical abilities but also their songwriting, which delves into topics beyond the usual capacity of a rock band.
Things begin to round off with the titular track, with the last act coming in the form of ‘Healing Isn’t Free‘, a slower, sultry cut that sees lead singer Benji Inkley well and truly croon. Ultimately, Fizzy Blood are a refreshing change in a world full of bands that are all trying to do the same thing. Summer Of Luv is evidence enough, providing fans with a force of energy that is quite unlike anything they would’ve heard before.
