Drama Club – Brixton Academy – 04/10/14 | Live Review

Drama Club seem like the odd ones out on the Black Mass Tour line-up but see what we thought of the electronic/rock duo.

Drama Club are the opening band on Black Veil Brides‘ Black Mass Tour tonight and after initial research it seems like a strange choice. The easiest way to define this duo is as an EDM outfit, which is only further confirmed by the decks set up on stage with an LED screen in front and one behind that will display an introduction and select lyrics.

The first track they perform, however, is their own mix of Bring Me The Horizon‘s ‘Can You Feel My Heart‘ giving them much more of a place on a rock tour like this. It doesn’t really seem to matter to the crowd what is being remixed as they jump and party their way through the entire set. There are moments when the crowd sing along too, such as ‘Shut Me Up‘ by Mindless Self Indulgence and ‘They Don’t Need To Understand‘ by Andy Black.

Not only do they remix rock tunes and make their own fantastic original songs, they perform live vocals and guitar alongside their electronic music. This is an aspect of the way they write coming through in the live set, which is great to see in a predominantly electronic set.

These guys are a great example of why not to judge an act before you’ve seen them live. The set quickly changes everyones opinion taking Drama Club from the band who maybe shouldn’t have been on the line-up to crowd favourites.
