Here at MOSH, we’re a pretty simple sort. Heck, our name pretty much spells it out for you. We’re all about loud, shouty and exciting music. That’s the shit that really turns us on. So, when faced with the new record from Dawes, the first thought that sprung to mind was: “what the folk is this?”
So yeah, Folk Rock? Not something we’ve ever really experienced before. Country rock sure! Blackberry Smoke more than made a stir in our musically analytical pants, but unfortunately We’re All Gonna Die fails to appeal to even our most primitive of senses.
Let’s cut the shit, it’s just a bit boring. The record as a whole has a tempo similar to that of a tap dancing snail, and acts as a feature length lullaby compilation rather than a full bodied rock release. We’re going to go out on a limb and say that yes, we can hear some similarities to that of say Red Hot Chili Peppers, but the Chili’s bring much more meat to the table. We’re talking strong choruses, loud pounding drums and of course slap master bass lines.
If we had to pick some stand out tracks, and trust us it’s more difficult that it sounds. It’d have to be ‘For No Good Reason’ and ‘Quitter’, purely because these tracks are slightly more towards actual melody as opposed to monotonous droning. As fans of heavy and extreme metal, let’s summarise here by saying we’ve had more fun with a Sleeping With Sirens record than this, fucking hell, dare we even say a Twenty One Pilots record?
We’re sure that there are people out there who will enjoy this record, but we’re just not those people unfortunately. So, excuse us while we go back to destroying our minds with the likes of Lamb Of God and Whitechapel, you know the soundtrack to our happy place and whatnot.
