It’s time for the world to take note of alternative quintet Breathe In The Silence who are ready to step things up with their second EP Hold My Heart, set for release on the September 2nd via Crooked Noise. Although influences are predominantly bred from names within rock and metal, the band obtain a diverse musical palette with members listening to artists ranging from Slipknot to Justin Timberlake. This 5-track EP is a testament to this, showcasing a newly developed Breathe In The Silence who have pushed their personal boundaries, musically and lyrically.
Opening track ‘Hold My Heart’ is a fitting introduction; a more mature side of the band evident with soaring vocals blending with softer melodies. The haunting introduction doesn’t take long to explode into an anthemic, powerful chorus; and throughout this EP the breakdowns are just epic. The five-piece have certainly not left their heavier roots behind as ‘Promised Lands’ and ‘Devil’s Peak’ – the latter featuring guest vocals from The Blackout’s Sean Smith – welcome back grittier post-hardcore elements: harsher riffs and guttural vocals at times juxtapose with vibrant melody to create an innovative blend of layers.
The EP is outstanding. There’s no other way to describe it. There’s no other band in the scene at the moment with such a rounded, blended sound. Hold My Heart has something for every listener; whether you’re interested in haunting melodies, catchy guitar riffs, drum beats which make it hard to stand still or aggressive, post-hardcore vocals, it has it all. It’s also very nice to hear Sean Smith doing what he does best on ‘Devil’s Peak’, and his vocals compliment Breathe In Silence perfectly.
The second half of 2016 looks bright for Breathe In The Silence, who next month tour the UK as main support to Swedish rockers Normandie. With an EP release tour in the UK as well as a venture out to Europe on the cards for the back end of the year, their live résumé is one to be desired, having already made appearances at Download Festival, Merthyr Rocks, Oxjam Festival and Butserfest.
