There comes a time in a certain bands careers where they take a giant step to becoming one of the ‘big guys’ on the scene. With latest album Lost Forever//Lost Together the UK’s own Architects fired the warning shots but tonight here at The Ritz in Manchester they proved to all that they have arrived.
We get Every Time I Die, a band here for two reasons, to blow the roof off the place and party like it’s the last night on earth. The band are currently riding high after last years downright amazing album From Parts Unknown and they are here to show that 17 years of touring and partying maketh a truly special band.
Every Time I Die bring something different to the nights hardcore proceedings. With no less of the fury of the other acts, the band also deliver a southern rock swagger, a sense of melody and a wry sense of humour all whilst losing none of their face shredding heaviness. A huge party vibe is created as the crowd breaks out into circle pit after circle pit. Waves of crowdsurfers pour over the barrier to the waiting (and we must say excellent) security guards.
The band play a full on career retrospective playing classics such as ‘We’reWolf’ and ‘The New Black’ and newer cuts such as the simply superb ‘Moor’. A track that closes the set and leaves everyone in attendance stunned. It may be no surprise to many but Every Time I Die destroy it tonight. How is any band meant to follow that?
Luckily for everyone here Architects are not just any band. Here is a band with a new fire lit in the stomaches. With a Top 20 album that has won awards everywhere, here is a band with something to prove and by God they don’t fail.
Drenched by blinding lights the band are a whirlwind of silhouettes that blast around the stage. From the off they have the crowd in the palm of their hands and they do not let go until the final rings of ‘Gravedigger’ sink into the bruised, sweaty and elated mob before them. Leadman Sam Carter is on fine form. Displaying that agression that first brought them to the dance but also showing that there are no egos with Architects. Thanking the crowd for getting them where they are, with this being their largest UK headline to date. He seems truly humbled by everything that is happening.
After tonight there is no doubt that Architects are only going to get bigger and better and God knows they deserve it. Can the band hang with the big boys? After a performance like this, they are the big boys! Sunning.
