When you’re a support band, you probably don’t expect much of a crowd reaction. When you’re a support band from Germany on your very first UK tour, you probably don’t expect a crowd reaction whatsoever! However, that’s definitely not the case with Annisokay tonight as they open for main act Fearless Vampire Killers.
With their mix of clean, polished vocals and brutal, growling screams, this European post-hardcore band are much heavier than the acts they perform alongside tonight and, with Fearless Vampire Killers’ younger audience, there’s a chance this more aggressive style of rock/metal might not go down too well. Thankfully, the tides turn in a much more promising direction and instead of backing away in fear, the crowd embrace the heaviness, with numerous mosh pits emerging across the floor throughout their set.
Given that Annisokay have never even stepped foot on British soil before this tour, the support they receive from the crowd is overwhelming; it’s not often you see a relatively unknown support act met with such open arms. We see fans desperately reaching out to touch the band and hear forceful screams at the end of every song, and it’s obvious that both the crowd and the band form an instant connection tonight.
With tracks from their critically acclaimed latest album Enigmatic Smile, Annisokay bring a fresh new sound to the recent explosion that is post-hardcore. With clean vocals that aren’t a note out of place, the band hit the tuneful melody of the genre spot on. However, unlike many teen-pop post-hardcore bands, the unclean screams take centre stage with Annisokay, with the deep roars giving this band a truly dark side.
After seeing how much love is in the room for a band that are new to the British music scene, it’d be a pretty safe bet to say that if Annisokay decide to make a return trip to the UK anytime soon they’d definitely be more than welcome.
