Pop punk band 7 Minutes In Heaven have big shoes to fill if they’re looking to live up to the kind of talent that’s come from their hometown of Chicago. Lucky for them, they’ve been charting from the get-go: 2015’s Side Effects hit the #1 spot on Billboard‘s New Artists chart, as well as #9 on its Heatseekers chart and #60 on Independent Artists. They’re pretty decorated for up-and-comers and that’s what makes them so intriguing, particularly with the release of new EP Symmetry.
Opener ‘Better Off‘ is a fantastic pop song, containing only subtle hints of rock and boasting a huge, sing-a-long chorus. It’s reminiscent of teenage favorites, such as You Me At Six, while still retaining some elements of punk— at least, enough to mean that 7 Minutes In Heaven are still labeled as pop punk.
‘LOTL‘ is next and gets into the nitty-gritty; it’s a well-rounded wonder of a track that really gives the band some substance. They’re one of a million bands trying to surf the pop-punk wave and it’s a smart idea to have a number of attributes that set them apart from the rest. Lyrically, they’re unfortunately nothing extraordinary
Lyrically, they’re unfortunately nothing extraordinary, but it is something that they make up for with their intricately put together instrumentals. It’s difficult nowadays to be completely unique, what with all the competition, and it’s certainly near impossible to live up to the brilliant lyricists of yesteryear— Fall Out Boy‘s Pete Wentz or Green Day‘s Billie Joe Armstrong for example— but 7 Minutes In Heaven manage to have enough of grip so that they can tap in to listeners’ emotions. ‘Cellar Door‘ is a heart-wrenching cut, and will certainly provide something that fans can resonate with.
For a band that is still relatively young, it’s clear that 7 Minutes In Heaven know exactly what they want and how to get it. They signed to the illustrious Rude Records at the start of the year, and with the release of EP it’s only a matter of time before they’re the band on everyone’s lips.
