Well, 2016 is over and what a great year for music it was! To help summarise everything that happened in the music world this year, BuzzAngle have published their very first year-end US Music Industry Report, which you can read here, containing data on “consumption, top artists, albums and songs, as well as a number of interesting and fun highlights” from 2016.
While the year was unsurprisingly dominated by pop artists like Adele, Rihanna and Drake, there were a number of rock bands who had major success, most notably Twenty One Pilots, who came out on top as the overall Rock Duo/Group of the year, as well as the most streamed Rock Artist. Their album Blurryface also consistently ranked high on album sales lists, including being the best-selling vinyl album of the year.
Panic! At The Disco clearly had a good year too, scoring the 12th best-selling album of the year with Death of a Bachelor and making it into the top 25 artists by overall consumption. Other rock artists who did well included Metallica (top Rock Group/Duo by album sales) and Blink-182 (16th best-selling vinyl album with California).
Here’s to another great year for rock music!
