Pop-punk band State Champs have been announced as the support for 5 Seconds of Summer on six dates as they tour New Zealand and Australia.
State Champs are the latest band to be announced as support acts as 5SOS gear up to tour the world next month and, while some fans might not be thrilled with the American pop-punkers’ decision to perform with a band who were touring stadiums with One Direction last year, guitarist Tyler Szalkowski doesn’t care one bit.
He tweeted: “I’m fucking stoked to be supporting @5sos. If you aren’t happy for us, get out of my face.”
Speaking to MTV News about the announcement, State Champs said:
“We are fans of 5SOS. When they asked us to tour with them, we were thrilled. We’ve hung out with them a handful of times and they were fun to be around so when they were like, ‘Hey, let’s go to Australia together.’ We were super down. We’re really looking forward to playing our first arena shows as well. It’s going to be such an interesting dynamic because we’re used to playing clubs. 5SOS have a very dedicated fan base and its going be a blast playing for them.”
State Champs are set to perform with 5 Seconds of Summer in June at the following dates:
18 – Vector Arena, Auckland
20 – Allphones Arena, Sydney
23 – Entertainment Centre,Brisbane
25 – Rod Laver Arena, Melbourne
27 – Entertainement Centre,Adelaide
29 – Perth Arena, Perth
