After over a week of weird speculation, You Me At Six have finally announced a new single, album and tour! The band will release a new studio album that will confirm their status as one of the most important rock bands to emerge from the UK, and is set for release early next year.
The album was recorded in Nashville at Black Bird Studios with Grammy award winning producer Jacquire King (Kings Of Leon, James Bay) and mixed by Andrew Scheps (Black Sabbath, Red Hot Chili Peppers).
To kick things off the band will play a bunch of underplay shows this autumn. Having gained a reputation as being one of the best live bands in the UK, with sold out tours that have seen them headline both Wembley Arena and the O2, this is a great opportunity to see them in the most intimate settings they have played in years
After complete silence from the You Me At Six camp for over a year, the band tortured fans with a mysterious Facebook live video on 10th August, sparking speculation about new material by fans.
The video, which is 55 minutes long and contains only the agonisingly slow reveal of #NIGHTPEOPLE for the first half an hour, and a mysterious symbol projected onto a brick wall sent fans into a frenzy of guessing what was going on. The only other thing to be seen in the video is about three seconds of singer Josh Franceschi turning off the projector right at the end.
Since the Facebook live video, the mysterious symbol has appeared on the band’s official Facebook and Twitter, as well as each of the band members changing their social media profile pictures to the symbol.
Over the course of a week, photos of lyrics being projected onto bridges and building were posted on the You Me At Six Facebook page adding to fan speculation about a possible return.
On 17th of August, the band announced that new single ‘Night People’ will be Annie Mac’s Hottest Record in the World on 22nd August on Radio 1, and that they will be joining her on the show.
Following the promise of an announcement later that night, the band announced a full UK tour the next morning, finally putting fans out of their misery.
So it’s now all confirmed, it’s time to get excited about one of our favourite pop-punk bands come back after a year’s absence.
Here’s five reasons we’re glad You Me At Six are back:
- Because Take Off Your Colours: Okay, so the band never, ever, EVER play any songs from their first album, and that makes us kind of sad. BUT we’ll take any excuse going to listen to this absolute pop-punk classic again, and this seems like a pretty good reason…
- Because we never know what to expect from their new material: We love all of You Me At Six’s albums; from their debut to the newest album Cavalier Youth, but every time they release something new it’s a surprise. The band have gone through a few evolutions over the years, and we can’t wait to see what they will come up with next.
- Because they are so, so good live: It’s been far too long since we’ve seen You Me At Six play live. They are energetic, explosive, and they always look like they are having the time of their lives!
- Because the fans are amazing: If you’ve been to a You Me At Six gig, you’ll understand what we mean. Fans at gigs always go crazy, scream, jump and dance a lot and sing along, but You Me At Six fans are just next level.
- Because we need something to get us over the My Chemical Romance fiasco: …we don’t want to talk about it…
